TO keep your Pre-Civil War costumes cleaner, try using a fabric finish with dirt repellent properties (such as Scotch Guard).  Try it in an inconspicuous place first, just in case it changes the color of your clothing.  For those of us living in the warmer climes, sweat guards can keep your antique clothing away from the dry cleaner just a little longer.
